What is a Tesla-style configurator?
A Tesla-style configurator is a step-by-step 3D configurator where the buyer builds the product themselves and sees the price at every step. Car brands made it normal: you choose the model, the colour, the wheels and the interior, and you know the price before you talk to anyone.
Made-to-measure products are harder than cars, because every one has its own width, depth and height. That is exactly why the experience helps. Next Configurator does it with parametric 3D models: the model rebuilds itself to the buyer’s sizes, and the price follows. Tesla is a trademark of Tesla, Inc.; we are not affiliated with it and use the name only to describe the type of experience.
On the last step the buyer can add up to five site photos and book a measuring visit on your calendar, if you switch those on. On a phone they can also see the design on their own terrace in AR.
Why buyers expect it now
People who bought a car, a kitchen or a bike online have already learned this pattern. They expect to see what they are getting and roughly what it costs before they fill in a form. A page with three photos and “contact us for a price” feels like a step back, and many of them leave for a site that shows more.
For you, the difference shows up in the requests. A buyer who has spent ten minutes configuring a 5 by 4 metre louvred pergola with two ZIP screens is a different conversation from an anonymous “how much is a pergola?”. You can quote the same day, because the measurements and options are already there.
